WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

My throwing career started at Gill St. Bernard’s School my freshman year. I threw 32’ in the shot put and 99’ in the discus. The next year, I threw 41’ and 131’. With no football team to see high-level weight lifting and no throws coach to direct proper development, my understanding was the all-too-typical “you don't know what you don't know.” My teammates and I thought that by throwing and lifting a few days a week with no guidance, we would dramatically improve… this is the fallacy of throwing.

The summer going into my junior year, I started watching professional shot put and discus throwers on YouTube and hoped to one day break 50’ and 150’. I found Coach Mark Mirabelli and saw him privately three times from July to August.

I learned about drills, technique, and the power of YouTube. I committed to understanding “what I didn’t know” and worked endlessly by myself to learn how to throw from August to the indoor season. By January, I had thrown 60’ and finished the year at 61’ and 167’ in the discus, a 20’ and 36’ improvement in one year. I benched a measly 245 lbs and squatted 315 lbs. My improvement was the result of concentrated throwing repetitions and drills to teach the correct muscle memory patterns to make the unnatural motion of shot put and discus second nature. I was runner-up in the shot put at the Meet of Champions, where the prior year I did not even qualify for the meet. My senior year, I teamed up with throws coach legend Tony Naclerio and finished with 2x NJ Meet of Champions titles in the shot put, an All-American honor, and personal bests of 65’-1.5” and 184’-6” in 2018. I went from being unrecruitable my sophomore year to having my pick of where to attend. My throwing successes opened up so many doors, and the biggest one was my commitment to attend Princeton University and the Ivy League.

OFF TO COLLEGE!

My Princeton University career came with an undefeated Ivy League Champion resume and 2x All-American honors under the tutelage of Head Coach and 1976 Olympian Fred Samara. I learned how to train at the highest level and what it took to improve technically and physically to make the heavier college shot put and discus go far. Most importantly, I was a part of the greatest Ivy League track and field team in history, with two top-10 team NCAA finishes for the Tigers in 2022. This winning culture propelled my career to personal bests of 65’-3.5” (19.90m) and 186’-11” (56.95m) with the 16 lb and 2 kg discus. I graduated in 2022 with a B.A. in History.

OFF TO THE SEC!

My NCAA career was lengthened from injuries and the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to my graduate transfer decision to the University of South Carolina on a full scholarship and the ability to attend business school. I switched coaches to Mike Sergent, who had guided world-class throwers Joshua Awotunde and Brad Snyder. I was immersed in the SEC conference, which hardened me to extend my personal best to 67’-3” (20.51m), achieving 3x All-American honors and a trip to the Olympic Trials. I trained with teammate Dylan Targgart (67’/20.50m+) and training partner Awotunde (73’/22.29m), where every day was about throwing far and talking technique. I received my MBA specializing in finance from the Darla Moore School of Business in 2025.

COACHING THE NEXT GEN

My passion for coaching started early on in my throwing career with the mentoring of my brother, Joe. A 2022 2x Meet of Champions shot put winner and runner-up in the discus, Joe has continued his stellar career also at Princeton University. During summers and holiday breaks, I began coaching a few local athletes who all saw success in breaking the 50’ barrier and knew that coaching was something I wanted to pursue. In addition, I spent time developing the throws program for Morristown Beard High School during the spring of COVID-19 and have run clinics back at Gill St. Bernard’s School.

There is no better joy than watching athletes unlock their potential in the throwing events. I was one of those athletes; now I am on a mission to guide the next generation. I am returning to New Jersey full-time, and I'm excited to share my near-decade-long expertise under and around some of the strongest minds in throwing.
